Chief of Impound
Your responsibility is to be sure to the best of your ability and that of your worker’s ability, that all competing cars are legal. However, impound is typically limited to making visual inspections and simple measurements (weight). More intrusive inspections should be left to protest proceedings. ALL cars will be in impound after their 3rd run each day. There will be no impounded cars, of course, during the first heat; but there will be cars impounded after the fourth or last heat each day. If competitors have any questions while they are in impound, they should be directed to the Chief of Impound or his designated representative. A driver or crewmember should remain with the car while it is in impound. Cars may be inspected by other competitors – this is a hands-off inspection only! Do not allow anyone to work impound during a class that they or their co-driver may be competing in. If a competitor is held after the rest of his/her class has been released from impound, he/she must be made fully aware of the reason for the delay!
Please re-read your Solo II rule books in regards to impound procedures. (Section 6.10)
Procedure for weighing cars:
Only Prepared and Modified category cars are required to be weighed.
A record of what each car actually weighs should be posted at impound. The information should have the class, car number, and both the required amount and the actual amount. The required amount is declared by the competitor. The purpose of posting this information is to allow the fellow competitors to police the weights. Example, if someone tells you the wrong (light) weight, impound workers typically don’t really know the difference, but competitors do.
If the actual weight is less than ten or so pounds of the required amount, the impound workers need to recalibrate, weigh in both directions, etc. to try to be absolutely sure the car is light. Being member friendly and low key is very important.
If the car really turns up light, then impound has to pass a protest form on to the protest committee for disposition.
Procedure for Contingency Confirmation:
After registration is completed, you will receive the contingency form with all names and contingency information included. These forms need to be verified to make sure that the information is correct. If the information is not right with what is on the car please put the correct information on the forms. After the event is over, the contingency forms should be turned over to the Divisional Steward.
