Chief of Workers

As the Chief of Workers, you are responsible to assign, train, and equip workers for each station. You are also responsible for reporting to the Chief Steward anyone that has not worked his or her appropriate shift.

Attached is a list of do’s and don’ts for corner workers. Go over this with the workers. Insure that the corner workers are proficient at radio operation and protocol as well as documenting every car that passes their position. The accurate recording of all pylon penalties and/or course deviations are critical duties for the corner workers to perform.

Worker positions are usually assigned at registration. It is suggested that you be there to oversee the worker assignment station. The proper head count as well as consideration for the experience level mix should be carefully thought out so that delays to reposition personnel are minimized. Proper radio operation and protocol, red flag procedures, and pylon and course deviation infractions should be clearly understood by all corner workers. The "Down-and-Out Rule" should be reviewed, as well as the proper way to document each car that passes a work station and any penalties incurred. The proper number of corner workers is dependent on the length of the course, the number of worker stations and the area (size) to be covered by any one group of workers. There should be a radio operator, a person to document all cars and infractions, and a minimum of 1 to 2 workers to reset pylons. NO PHOTOGRAPHY is allowed by corner workers when they are working a run group.

It is your responsibility to make sure course incident reports are separated and put on clipboards for each worker station for each heat both Saturday & Sunday.

Make sure that you assign enough Safety Stewards to work with the Event Safety Steward, normally 1 to 2 workers per heat.

Do not forget about the workers that may be needed to work the gate(s), waivers and other non-course-related functions.
